Lesson 2: Which Digital Storytelling Tools Should I Use?
There are so many tools to choose from!!! How do you pick? It is best simply to start somewhere. Pick a digital storytelling tool that has been recommended to you by a colleague or that you have learned about during this course. Try it out. Experiment with it. Decide how you could utilize it with your students. Don't be frightened when your students learn how to use it quicker than you do. Instead, be proud and learn from them.
Here are some that I strongly suggest and that are definitely appropriate for young learners.
xtranormal: This is an awesome site that allows students to create a digital story with the art of film making. Students can chose their actors, write the dialogue and pick a background. Really fun!
VoiceThread: What a neat tool that allows students to collaborate in a multimedia slideshow. Students create a slide and add their voice. What a neat way to create a class digital story!
StoryBird: Storybirds are short, art-inspired stories you make to share, read, and print. They are exciting to make and definitely capture young children's attention. My son is in Kindergarten and loves StoryBird!
Creaza: A collection of tools that allow students to create movies, soundscapes, cartoons and mindmaps. I love this tool and find it to be very easy to use.
iMovie: Imovie enables students to put a collection of images together and then add either music or voice. This is a really easy way to make a digital story!
